Allendale Co-operative Society was formed in 1874, and like all Co-ops is owned by its members, most of whom live in the Allen Valleys. Although a member of the wider Co-operative Movement, Allendale Co-op is not a part of the nationwide Co-operative Group. It is owned and run by local people for local people.

About Us

Our main aims are:

CHOICE – As an independent Society we offer all the main brands and Co-op lines, plus products from many local suppliers.
VALUE – As part of the wider Co-operative movement, we are able to take advantage of the purchasing power of the Co-operative Group and can offer goods at low competitive prices.
SUPPORT FOR THE COMMUNITY – Links to and support for the local community are very important, and every year many donations are made to local sports organisations, charitable and voluntary groups.

Monday – Friday 8.30am – 7pm
Saturday 8.30am – 5.15pm
Sunday Closed
Bank Holidays 10am – 4pm
Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Years Day Closed

Why Become A Member?
  • Members are shareholders who can benefit from successful trading.
  • Members have a vote at the AGM and can make their views known.
  • Members can stand for Directorship (please see Society Rules for eligibility) and help decide the future direction of the Society.
  • Members can influence the Co-op’s community policy.
  • As a member you are supporting a vital part of Allendale’s economy as well as its community life.
  • Members will be entitled to exclusive offers and benefits, including our Loyalty Card.
  • Allendale Co-op is owned by its members, which entitles them to a say in its democratic control.

 

How Can I Make My Voice Heard?
  • Talk to the Staff if you need help or advice.
  • Contact the Manager if you feel you have comments or ideas that would benefit the Society.
  • Become a Member
  • Attend the AGM.
  • Stand for the Board of Directors (Enquire at the Office).
To apply for membership, please print out our membership application form, or ask for a copy at the office. Complete the form and return it to us along with £1 to become a member.
